Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe and the heads of all 54 African football associations have declared their “unanimous and unconditional” support for Gianni Infantino to serve another term as FIFA president from 2027.

The declaration was made during the CAF Strategy Conference in Santa Maria on Cape Verde’s Sal Island, where Motsepe appeared alongside the presidents of Africa’s national football associations.

The show of support represents a significant endorsement for Infantino as he prepares to seek re-election at the end of his current term.

Motsepe publicly thanked the FIFA president for his contribution to the development of football in Africa, praising the work carried out under Infantino’s leadership.

“Thank you, Gianni Infantino, for all you do for African football,” Motsepe said.

Infantino has frequently highlighted Africa’s growing influence in world football and has worked closely with CAF on initiatives aimed at strengthening the continent’s football infrastructure, competitions and development programmes.

The FIFA president has also backed efforts to improve the ability of African countries to host international matches at home, with the number of nations able to stage games in their own countries increasing in recent years.

The Cape Verde conference has brought together the leadership of African football to discuss the continent’s development and its role in the global game.

The collective endorsement from all 54 African associations gives Infantino a powerful bloc of support ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election.

Infantino, who first became FIFA president in 2016, has overseen significant changes to the global football calendar and competitions during his tenure, including the expansion of the FIFA World Cup.

Africa will have nine guaranteed places at the expanded 2026 World Cup, with an additional qualification route available to one more African team.

Cape Verde are among the African nations to have made history by qualifying for their first-ever World Cup, with Infantino congratulating the country during his address at the CAF Strategy Conference.

The conference in Santa Maria is expected to continue discussions on the future development of African football, including infrastructure, competitions, youth development and the continent's growing influence within FIFA.
