Old Tafo Member of Parliament Vincent Assafuah has criticised Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku, alleging that football in the country is no longer being run on a "level playing field".
Speaking on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Assafuah claimed that key decisions affecting Ghana football were being made behind closed doors and questioned the condition of playing surfaces used for domestic matches.
"Ghana football is not being played on a level playing field. Decisions are being made behind closed doors, and Kurt Okraku wants to destroy the game," he said.
The lawmaker also raised concerns about the quality of pitches, arguing that matches should not continue on surfaces that become unplayable after heavy rainfall.
"Why should we continue playing when, after heavy rain, the ball can't even bounce properly on the pitch?" he asked.
Assafuah added that, despite being in the parliamentary Minority, his side would continue to contribute to Ghana's progress, but said concerns arose when football appeared to be controlled by one individual, with decisions allegedly influencing outcomes.
“Even as the Minority, we will continue to do our best to contribute to the progress of Ghana. But when Ghana football appears to be controlled by one individual, with decisions allegedly influencing who wins and who loses, it raises serious concerns about the state of the game,” he added.
His comments come amid wider debate over the state of Ghana football, with governance, transparency, officiating and infrastructure among the issues being discussed by stakeholders.
Assafuah is the second Member of Parliament in recent weeks to publicly criticise Okraku's leadership of the GFA. Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah previously accused the football administrator of presiding over the decline of the domestic game.
Okraku responded to those earlier remarks by saying the MP knew "nothing about football".
The GFA president has not publicly responded to Assafuah's latest comments.
