Medeama SC's hopes of reaching the next stage of the CAF Champions League preliminary round were dashed after a 3-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Saturday.
The Ghana Premier League champions travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo looking to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit suffered at the TnA Stadium last weekend, but were unable to produce the comeback they needed.
TP Mazembe took control of the tie early on, with Patrick Mwanungulu opening the scoring in the 16th minute before Kazema Baso doubled the hosts' advantage eight minutes later.
Mwanungulu struck again in the 78th minute to put the result beyond doubt and seal victory for the Congolese giants.
Dominic Amponsah pulled one back for Medeama three minutes from time, but it proved little more than a consolation as the hosts comfortably progressed.
The result sees TP Mazembe advance to the next preliminary round, where they will face Zambia's Red Arrows FC.
For Medeama, attention now turns to the defence of their Ghana Premier League title following an early exit from continental competition.
