My legacy will be appreciated when I leave office, says GFA president Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku says he believes his contribution to Ghana football will be better appreciated once he leaves office, as he responded to criticism of his tenure.

Okraku said his administration should be judged by its long-term impact on the game's development rather than the criticism it has attracted while he remains in charge.

Speaking to 3Sports, he acknowledged that leading Ghana football brings scrutiny but insisted he is focused on building a lasting legacy.

"My job is also to play my part. I will say that when I am gone, just like Kwame Nkrumah, people will appreciate," Okraku said.

"People will not only appreciate, but people will remember the good things that we did for Ghana football."

The GFA president argued that criticism is part of the role, citing the experience of former football chief Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Okraku said Nyantakyi also faced criticism during his time in office despite overseeing Ghana's qualification for the FIFA World Cup and a run to the Africa Cup of Nations final.

"President Kwesi Nyantakyi, same. At the end, he took Ghana to the World Cup, he took Ghana to the finals of the AFCON, he did his part, and my job is also to play my part," he said.

Okraku maintained that history would ultimately provide a broader assessment of his administration and expressed hope that his tenure would be remembered for its contribution to the growth of Ghana football.
