NPP sets September 9 for balloting ahead of 2026 national executives elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold balloting for its 2026 national officers’ elections on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as it advances preparations for the polls.

The exercise will take place at the NPP Headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra following the successful completion of the vetting of all aspirants, with the balloting determining their positions on the ballot paper.

The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) said the specific times for balloting for the various positions would be communicated directly to the aspirants.

Aspirants are expected to participate in the exercise either personally or through duly authorised representatives.

The balloting follows the completion of the vetting exercise conducted from August 31 to September 3, 2026, by the National Officers Election Vetting Committee.

A total of 47 aspirants contested the 9 national officer positions and appeared before the Vetting Committee.

In a statement dated September 5, the NPP announced: “Balloting for positions on the ballot paper will take place on Wednesday, 9th September 2026, at the NPP Headquarters, Asylum Down, Accra.”

Following the vetting, the Committee recommended all 47 aspirants as qualified and eligible to contest the respective positions for which they submitted their nominations.

The cleared candidates include 4 aspirants for National Chairman, 13 for National Vice-Chairperson, 4 for General Secretary and 4 for National Treasurer.

Eight aspirants have been cleared to contest the National Organiser position, while 6 will contest for National Youth Organiser.

Two aspirants have been cleared for National Women’s Organiser, 5 for National Nasara (Zongo) Organiser and 1 for National Communications Director.

The NOEC has urged all aspirants and their representatives to cooperate with the Committee to ensure the balloting exercise is conducted in an orderly and transparent manner.

It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the remaining stages of the electoral process are conducted in a manner that is “fair, transparent, orderly and credible.”

The Committee also appealed to aspirants, their supporters and party members to conduct themselves responsibly and help protect the unity and integrity of the NPP throughout the electoral process.

The party is expected to communicate further details on the subsequent stages of the elections in due course.
