Women's Champions League Qualifiers: Ampem Darkoa and Edo Queens final can showcase women's football growth - WAFU B Executive Director Philippe Tchere

WAFU Zone B Executive Director Philippe Tchere says he expects an entertaining spectacle when Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies face Nigeria's Edo Queens in the final of the WAFU Zone B Women's Champions League Qualifying Tournament in Ouagadougou.

The two sides booked their places in the final with commanding semi-final victories on Wednesday. Ampem Darkoa brushed aside Benin's FC Dynamique 4-1, while Edo Queens thrashed hosts USFA of Burkina Faso 5-1 to set up a repeat of their earlier meeting in the competition.

Ampem Darkoa head into the showdown with confidence after defeating the Nigerian champions 2-1 during the group stage. However, Edo Queens will be seeking revenge as both teams battle for the regional title and a coveted place in the CAF Women's Champions League.

Tchere believes the final has all the ingredients to become one of the standout matches in African women's club football, citing the quality displayed by both teams throughout the tournament.

"I can't wait for the final," he said.

"These are two sides who possess the ball very well, defend very well and have also scored a lot of goals in the tournament. I applaud their coaches for a wonderful job done and congratulate both of them for making it to the final."

Both clubs have impressed with their attacking displays and organisation during the competition, raising expectations ahead of the decisive encounter.

Tchere is convinced the match will attract attention across the continent regardless of the outcome.

"I know Africa will talk after the final no matter who wins it. I know we will witness good football to add to the fact that women's football is growing in the zone," he added.

The final is expected to provide a fitting conclusion to the tournament, with Ampem Darkoa aiming to complete a double over Edo Queens and the Nigerian side looking to overturn their earlier defeat.

Beyond the battle for silverware and qualification to the CAF Women's Champions League, the match is also being viewed as another indication of the rapid progress being made in women's football across the WAFU Zone B region.
