BOGISS defilement case: Security guard allegedly lured 14-year-old student with phone

New details in the case involving two security guards of Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School (BOGISS), who are accused of defiling a 14-year-old student with special needs, indicate that one of the suspects allegedly lured the girl with an Itel keypad mobile phone.

The accused persons, identified as 72-year-old Adams Nyaaba Iddrisu and 38-year-old Elvis Adongo, are alleged to have taken advantage of the student’s vulnerable condition and engaged in sexual intercourse with her on several occasions at different locations.

The alleged abuse came to light after the student was found using the mobile phone on the school compound. She was questioned by the school’s Dean of Discipline about how she came by the device.

According to the prosecution, the student told school authorities that Iddrisu had bought the phone for her.

Further questioning reportedly led to additional disclosures, with the student alleging that both Iddrisu and Adongo had engaged in sexual intercourse with her on several occasions while she was at the school.

The allegations were brought before the Bolgatanga Circuit Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, when the case came up for hearing.

Prosecuting, Inspector Baliki Amidu Isaaka told the court that the complainant, Ms Celestina Atuora, is the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic Affairs at BOGISS, while the victim is a first-year student of the school.

The prosecution said the victim, described as a special child, was a boarder at the school and usually charged her tablet at the security room after evening preparation.

It told the court that investigations had established that between June and July 2026, the 2 accused persons allegedly exploited the student’s vulnerability and had sexual intercourse with her.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons allegedly provided the student with food and financial support as part of their interactions with her, while Iddrisu allegedly bought the mobile phone for her.

It was reportedly the discovery of the phone that led to further questioning and the subsequent disclosures about the alleged sexual encounters.

Alleged encounters at school
The prosecution said the student, during further questioning, allegedly disclosed that the 2 security guards had sexual intercourse with her at various locations within the school.

The locations cited in court included the security room, an area behind the dining hall and a classroom in the Unity Block after evening preparation.

Case reported to police
The matter was reported to the police on July 23, 2026, by the complainant, Ms Atuora.

Following the report, the 2 accused persons were arrested and cautioned by the police.

The prosecution told the court that investigations were still ongoing and that the case docket was being prepared for submission to the Attorney-General’s Office for advice.

Iddrisu and Adongo are facing charges of defilement contrary to Section 101 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The Bolgatanga Circuit Court, presided over by Sumaila Nbache Ahmadu, granted each accused bail in the sum of GH¢100,000.00 with 2 sureties.

One of the sureties for each accused must be a worker earning a monthly salary of not less than GH¢3,000.

The 2 accused persons have also been ordered to report to the police every 2 weeks.

The case has been adjourned to September 17, 2026.
