Otumfuo returns to Kumasi to rapturous welcome after 10-day US visit

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II returned to Kumasi on Thursday after a 10-day working visit to the United States of America (USA), where his engagements culminated in a grand celebration of Akwasidae Kɛse in Maryland.

The Asantehene’s chartered flight arrived at the Prempeh I International Airport at exactly 12:30 PM.

A large gathering of chiefs, local leaders and heads of the various security agencies were at the airport to welcome Otumfuo back home.

The security services also mounted a guard of honour in his honour as part of the reception.

After arriving at the airport, Otumfuo travelled through some principal streets of Kumasi, where residents and well-wishers lined the streets to cheer, applaud and sing his praises before he continued to the Manhyia Palace.

During his visit to the United States, the Asantehene delivered a lecture at Howard University in Washington, D.C., on the theme, “Governance, Cultural Preservation, Traditional Leadership and the Enduring Connections Between Ghana and the Global African Diaspora.”

He also participated in the grand Akwasidae celebration held at Bowie University in Maryland, which brought together Asantes from across North America for the cultural festival.

The Asantehene further held a high-level engagement with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., as part of several other engagements during his visit.
