Infantino praises Ghana's football development efforts after meeting with GFA president

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Ghana’s efforts to develop football at all levels following a meeting with Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku in Zurich.

The meeting focused on football development and opportunities for enhanced collaboration between FIFA and the GFA as Ghana continues to strengthen the game from the grassroots to the elite level.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Infantino said discussions centred on ways to build a stronger foundation for football in Ghana, highlighting the GFA’s commitment to grassroots and infrastructure development.

He noted that the association’s initiatives had contributed to positive progress in Ghanaian football, citing the country’s qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as evidence of that advancement.

“President Okraku and his team understand the importance of grassroots and infrastructure development, and their work has helped Ghana take positive strides,” Infantino said.

The FIFA President also commended the GFA for its dedication to the growth of the sport and its role in creating opportunities for young people.

“Following our productive meeting, I thanked everyone at the Ghana Football Association for their continued support and dedication to ensuring football remains a beacon of hope for everyone with a football dream in Ghana,” he added.

Mr Simeon-Okraku, who also serves as the second vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has prioritised youth development, infrastructure improvement and grassroots football since assuming office.

The meeting underscored the growing partnership between FIFA and the GFA as both bodies pursue initiatives aimed at expanding football opportunities and strengthening the sport across Ghana.
