Medeama beat Nations FC to win Champion of Champions title

Medeama SC began the new campaign on a winning note after defeating Nations FC 2-0 to lift the 2026 Champion of Champions trophy at TNA Park on Sunday.

The Ghana Premier League champions took control of the contest in the 28th minute when they were awarded a penalty following a handball by a Nations FC defender inside the box. Fatawu Sulemana made no mistake from the spot, calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the hosts the lead.

Medeama maintained their dominance after the break and doubled their advantage through Emmanuel Annor, who came back to haunt his former club with a composed finish that sealed victory for the Tarkwa-based side.

The triumph provides a timely boost for Medeama ahead of their return to continental football, with the club set to begin its CAF Champions League campaign next month.

The Yellow and Mauve outfit will host Congolese giants TP Mazembe on September 6 in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie as they seek to build on their domestic success.

Nations FC will also shift their focus to continental action after the defeat. The FA Cup holders are scheduled to travel to Mali to face Diarra FC in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round encounter on September 5.

The Champion of Champions match serves as the traditional curtain-raiser to the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, which gets underway this weekend.
