FRI, 21 AUG 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched the tender process for media rights to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, inviting broadcasters across Sub-Saharan Africa to bid for coverage of the continent's flagship football tournament.

CAF announced that the Invitation to Tender (ITT) covers both Free-to-Air (FTA) and Pay-TV rights for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2027, branded as "PAMOJA". The rights package includes broadcasts in English, Swahili, Portuguese, isiZulu, Wolof, Yoruba and other local languages across the Sub-Saharan region.

However, French-language Pay-TV rights have been excluded from the tender process for the 2027 tournament.

Interested broadcasters and media companies have until 14 September 2026 at 17:00 Cairo time to submit their bids.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, marking the first time the three East African nations will stage the tournament together. The competition is scheduled to run from 19 June to 17 July 2027.

CAF said the Africa Cup of Nations continues to strengthen its position as one of the world's most-watched football events.

According to the governing body, the 2025 edition in Morocco attracted more than 3.2 billion television viewers and generated six billion digital views worldwide, making it the third-largest international national team football competition behind the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship.

In addition to AFCON 2027, CAF has also opened media rights tenders for several other competitions across its football calendar.

These include the qualification matches for AFCON 2027, the CAF Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations 2026, the CAF Africa U-20 Cup of Nations Ghana 2027, the CAF Africa U-17 Cup of Nations Morocco 2027, the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026, and the CAF Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The move forms part of CAF's broader strategy to expand the reach and commercial value of its competitions as interest in African football continues to grow across global broadcast and digital platforms.
