Patrice Beaumelle emerges as candidate for Black Stars head coach role - Reports

Patrice Beaumelle has emerged as one of the coaches being considered for the vacant Ghana national team job, with the Black Stars still searching for a permanent head coach.

Ghana are currently without a substantive manager following the expiry of Carlos Queiroz's short-term contract.

The Portuguese veteran was appointed on a four-month deal to lead the Black Stars through the 2026 World Cup campaign after Otto Addo was dismissed in March.

While assistant coach and Ghana's Under-23 coach Desmond Ofei is understood to be among the leading candidates for the position, Beaumelle has also been proposed as a possible option for the role.

The Frenchman brings considerable experience of African football to the table, having previously managed the national teams of Ivory Coast, Zambia and Angola.

Beaumelle also served as an assistant to Herve Renard with Ivory Coast and Zambia, giving him extensive experience at international level on the continent.

The Black Stars are now preparing for a new chapter after their 2026 World Cup campaign in North America, where they were eliminated in the round of 32.

Ghana are scheduled to return to action next month in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, having missed out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco.

They have been drawn in Group C alongside West African rivals Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.

With the AFCON qualifiers approaching, the Ghana Football Association faces increasing pressure to appoint a new head coach and provide the team with stability ahead of the next international window.

The decision on Queiroz's successor is expected to shape Ghana's preparations for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers and the team's longer-term rebuilding process.
