Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler says his ambition is to guide the club to a top-two finish in the Ghana Premier League and challenge for the title in the 2026/27 season.
The South African took charge of the Porcupine Warriors during the off-season after the club endured an inconsistent campaign last term, finishing eighth in the league.
Tinkler, however, believes Kotoko have the quality required to mount a serious challenge at the top of the table.
“The target is to finish in the top two; that’s the target. I didn’t come here just to earn a salary; I came here to win things, to achieve things,” he said.
“I have achieved things in my coaching career, and I want to continue achieving things.”
The 54-year-old faces the task of rebuilding a squad that has undergone significant changes during the transfer window.
Several players have left the club, while new arrivals, including a number of foreign-based recruits, have been brought in as Kotoko seek to strengthen their squad.
Tinkler believes the changes have given the club the foundation to compete for honours, although he accepts that developing a cohesive team will take time.
“I think we have the materials to compete for the league,” he added.
Kotoko will use the 2026 Democracy Cup against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak as part of their preparations for the new campaign.
The match will provide Tinkler with an opportunity to assess his squad and build fitness ahead of the start of the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko will begin their league campaign on 5 September against newly promoted Debibi United.
With the club targeting a return to the top end of the table, Tinkler will be expected to quickly turn his plans into results as Kotoko look to challenge for the league title.
