Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice-president George Afriyie has questioned the possible appointment of Desmond Ofei as the next head coach of the Black Stars.
Carlos Queiroz, who took charge of Ghana on a short-term contract following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March, is expected to leave his position after his four-month deal expires.
The Portuguese coach guided Ghana to the knockout phase of the 2026 Fifa World Cup in North America, where the Black Stars reached the last 32 for the first time since the 2010 tournament.
With Ghana preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Ofei has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take over from Queiroz.
However, Afriyie has strongly opposed the idea of handing the former Ghana Under-20 coach the job.
"If today we are looking for a coach for the Black Stars and Desmond Ofei is the answer, then we have a problem," he said.
Afriyie, who previously chaired the Black Stars Management Committee, also criticised Queiroz's tactical approach despite the team's progress at the World Cup.
"As for Carlos Queiroz, I don't like his defensive approach. It's old-fashioned," he added.
Queiroz was appointed in April on a four-month contract after Ghana parted ways with Addo following a difficult run of results in the build-up to the World Cup.
The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in September to begin their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON, increasing the urgency for the GFA to decide on the team's next permanent coach.
The choice of successor will be closely watched as Ghana look to rebuild after missing out on the 2025 AFCON and secure a place at the next tournament.
