Caleb Yirenkyi excited for Coventry City challenge after completing long-term move

Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has expressed his excitement after completing a long-term move to Coventry City from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland ahead of the new Premier League season.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Sky Blues for an undisclosed fee subject to international clearance, says he is eager to begin the next chapter of his career and contribute to the club’s ambitions.

Speaking to Coventry City’s official website after sealing the move, Yirenkyi revealed his enthusiasm about joining the club and working under the guidance of the head coach.

“I’m excited to be at this club," Yirenkyi told the official club website after completing the move.

“I’ve heard so much about it, and I really feel positive about being here.

“When I spoke to the Head Coach about the plans and the style, it’s something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him.

“I want to give my best to the team each and every day. I’m still young, so I want to learn from the Head Coach, the other players and work really hard for the team.

“I’ve also heard a lot about the fans; they’re incredible, and I can’t wait to play in front of them.”

Yirenkyi arrives at Coventry City after a remarkable rise in both club and international football. The talented midfielder was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played a key role for the Black Stars and scored the dramatic late winner in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama.

The youngster has already earned 15 senior caps for Ghana, with his rapid progress establishing him as one of the country’s most promising emerging talents.

A product of the renowned Right to Dream Academy, Yirenkyi moved to FC Nordsjaelland in 2024 and made his senior debut for the Danish club in September of that year at just 18 years old.

He quickly developed into an important member of the Nordsjaelland squad, playing a major role during the 2025/26 campaign.

The Ghanaian midfielder featured in 34 matches as the club finished third in the Danish Superliga and secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

His impressive performances throughout the season earned him major individual recognition, including the Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year award. He was also named in the league’s 2025/26 Team of the Year.
