Omane was a true friend, a younger brother and a loyalist — Mahama eulogises late Defence Minister

President John Dramani Mahama has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The President made the remarks in a social media post on Friday, August 7, after unveiling a cenotaph in honour of the late minister, who died in the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash alongside seven others while on official duty.

President Mahama said the memorial symbolises Dr. Omane Boamah's lifelong commitment to serving the nation with dedication and selflessness.

"More than stone and inscriptions, the monument honouring Dr. Edward Omane Boamah stands as a lasting testament to a devoted patriot who spent his life in selfless service to Ghana," he wrote.

President Mahama reflected on the close personal and political relationship he shared with the late minister, describing him as one of his most dependable allies throughout his political journey.

He also praised Dr. Omane Boamah's role in strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces and deepening the country's democratic governance.

"Omane was a true friend, a younger brother, a loyalist, and a close advisor. At every momentous occasion in my political career, he stood firmly by my side with loyalty, humility, and love," the President stated.

He further noted that Dr. Omane Boamah remains the only Defence Minister in Ghana's history to have died while serving in office and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Armed Forces for organising what he described as a fitting tribute in his honour.
