GOC, CGA Ghana commend Team Ghana for inspiring performance at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Ghana have praised Team Ghana for what they described as an inspiring campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, applauding the athletes for their resilience, determination and commitment on the international stage.

In a statement issued on August 2, 2026, the two sporting bodies described Ghana’s participation at the Games as a true reflection of the fighting spirit of the Ghanaian athlete, despite facing strong competition from some of the best performers across the Commonwealth.

According to the GOC and CGA Ghana, Team Ghana competed against world-class opposition and demonstrated remarkable courage, discipline and perseverance throughout the competition.

“Despite the intensity of the competition, Ghana’s athletes rose to the challenge, working harder, pushing their limits, and delivering respectable results that brought pride and honour to the nation,” the statement noted.

The Committee highlighted the achievements of Ghana’s medal winners, including para-athlete Zinabu Issah, who secured a silver medal in the women’s F57 shot put event, and boxer Amadu Mohammed, who claimed bronze in the men’s 55kg category.

Special recognition was also given to Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team, comprising Joseph Paul Amoah, Mustapha Borkpin, Saminu Rasheed-Abdul and Benjamin Azamati, for their impressive display of speed, teamwork and determination against some of the world’s leading sprint nations.

Beyond the medal winners, the GOC/CGA Ghana also commended the entire Ghanaian delegation, including athletes in athletics, para athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, swimming, para swimming, para powerlifting and weightlifting.

The statement stressed that several Ghanaian athletes narrowly missed out on podium finishes but still contributed significantly to the country’s strong representation in Glasgow.

“The team showed the Ghanaian spirit — a never-say-die attitude,” the Committee said, adding that every athlete played a role in making the nation proud.

The GOC and CGA Ghana expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, corporate partners including GCB Bank PLC and the Eezy Group Foundation, the Ghana Sports Fund, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel, team management, the media, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Ghanaian community in Scotland for their support.

The sporting bodies believe the experience gained from Glasgow 2026 will provide a strong foundation for future success, with attention now shifting towards building a stronger team ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

They emphasised the need for improved preparation, targeted athlete development and stronger support systems to help Ghanaian athletes compete at the highest level globally.

“The true success of Team Ghana’s campaign was beyond medals won, but the courage, unity, resilience and fighting spirit displayed against world-class opposition,” the statement concluded.

The GOC and CGA Ghana congratulated all athletes and members of the delegation for their efforts, urging them to continue striving for greater achievements in future international competitions.
