Asantehene charges new KNUST VC to lead with humility and fairness

The Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the newly inducted Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare, to embrace a leadership style anchored on humility, consultation, fairness and responsible stewardship of the institution.

Speaking at Professor Agyare’s investiture ceremony, Otumfuo advised the new Vice-Chancellor to view the position not as a personal privilege but as a responsibility entrusted to him for the advancement of the university and future generations.

He noted that effective leadership is not defined by the absence of difficulties but by the ability to turn challenges into opportunities that strengthen confidence among staff, students and other stakeholders.

“Remember, no Vice Chancellor succeeds alone. The massive attendance at your investiture today is a clear demonstration of the goodwill, confidence and high expectations that the university community and its stakeholders have for your leadership. Never consider this office as a privilege above others, rather, regard it as a sacred trust placed in your hands for the benefit of generations you may never meet,” he said.

The Asantehene stressed the importance of collaborative leadership, encouraging Professor Agyare to empower others and build a culture where members of the university community can contribute meaningfully to its growth.

“Institutions become stronger when leadership develops others rather than seeks to overshadow them,” he added.

Otumfuo further reminded the Vice-Chancellor that the core mandate of the university must remain central to all decisions, policies and reforms implemented under his administration.

“And finally, never lose sight of the reason this university exists. Every policy, every decision, every investment and every reform must ultimately enhance teaching, learning, research, innovation, and service to society,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that Professor Agyare’s leadership would contribute to the continued growth and development of KNUST as a leading institution of higher learning.
