Ghana’s para athlete Zinabu Issah has delivered the country’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after securing silver in the women’s Shot Put F57 final in Glasgow.
Issah produced a season-best throw of 8.65 metres to finish second, earning Team Ghana its first podium finish at the Games.
The 31-year-old continues to strengthen her reputation as one of Ghana’s top para athletes, following a series of impressive performances on the international stage.
At the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, Issah competed in the women’s Shot Put F57 event, reaching the final after registering a qualifying throw of 8.67m.
She later posted a mark of 8.84m in the final to finish ninth overall. She also featured in the women’s Discus F57 competition, where she placed 12th with a best throw of 23.85m.
Her silver medal in Glasgow represents a significant achievement for Ghana’s delegation and provides an early boost as the country continues its campaign at the Commonwealth Games.
More Ghanaian athletes are expected to compete in athletics, boxing and swimming as Team Ghana aims to add more medals before the conclusion of the event.
