Black Satellites arrive in Côte d’Ivoire ahead of WAFU B U-20 Championship

Ghana’s Black Satellites have arrived safely in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, which kicks off on Sunday, July 26.

The Ghana U-20 national team, led by head coach Maxwell Konadu, touched down in Côte d’Ivoire in high spirits following a rigorous training camp in Accra that was concluded with a confidence-boosting victory over Semper Fi in their final pre-tournament friendly.

Having now settled in Yamoussoukro, the Black Satellites have entered the final stage of their preparations as they focus on perfecting their strategy for the competition. The technical team is expected to oversee the squad’s final training session on Saturday, with Konadu using the opportunity to sharpen tactics and make final adjustments before Ghana’s opening fixture.

Ghana will begin their Group B campaign with a highly anticipated clash against West African rivals Nigeria on Monday, July 27, at the Lycée Scientifique de Yamoussoukro.

The encounter is expected to be one of the biggest fixtures of the group stage, with both sides looking to make a strong start to their title ambitions.

After facing Nigeria, the Black Satellites will continue their group campaign against Burkina Faso before rounding off the first phase of the tournament with a meeting against Togo.

Coach Maxwell Konadu and his technical team will be hoping the team’s preparations translate into strong performances as Ghana targets qualification to the knockout stage and aims to lift the WAFU B U-20 Championship trophy.

The tournament carries added significance as it serves as the qualifying competition for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Ghana.
