Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that he was never given an explanation for his dismissal from Ghana's national team, months after being relieved of his duties.

The 50-year-old was reappointed as Ghana coach in March 2024 but was dismissed in March 2026 following a disappointing run of results, despite leading the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His departure was confirmed after Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Germany in an international friendly, bringing an abrupt end to his second spell in charge.

With the World Cup less than two months away, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) appointed experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz on a short-term contract to lead the team into the tournament.

In an interview with German football magazine 11Freunde, Addo admitted he remains unaware of the reasons behind his dismissal, revealing that he never sought an explanation from the GFA.

"Honestly, I still haven’t been given a reason [for my sacking] to this day, and honestly, I didn’t ask either," Addo said.

The former Ghana international also disclosed that his relationship with the country's football authorities had become increasingly strained before his exit.

"There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me, our federation president, and the board as well. It just felt like I could have been sacked after just one month," he added.

Tensions had reportedly escalated following Ghana's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking the Black Stars' first absence from the continental tournament in 21 years.

Despite recovering to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Addo's tenure ended just 72 days before the start of the global showpiece.

Following his departure, Addo joined FIFA's Technical Study Group for the World Cup, while Queiroz was tasked with guiding Ghana through the tournament.
