CAF awaiting CAS verdict on disputed 2025 AFCON final, says Patrice Motsepe

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe has revealed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is still waiting for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to deliver its final ruling on the dispute surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.

Addressing journalists in Johannesburg on Wednesday, Motsepe said CAF would not make any further decisions on the matter until the Lausanne-based sports tribunal reaches its verdict.

“Regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, we are awaiting the final decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the dispute from the AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal,” Motsepe said.

His comments offer the latest official update on one of the most closely watched legal cases in African football, with the continental governing body continuing to defer to the independent judicial process.

The case, which arose from the controversial conclusion of the AFCON 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal, was referred to CAS for adjudication. The tribunal's ruling is expected to determine the final outcome of the dispute and bring legal closure to the tournament.

Motsepe stressed that CAF remains committed to respecting the court's decision and will only take the appropriate course of action once the ruling has been issued.
