The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, for five months following a petition lodged against him by the constituency's Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
The decision was taken by the party's Functional Executive Committee (FEC) at a meeting held on July 21, 2026, according to a letter signed by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
The party explained that the committee considered the petition filed by the MP alongside recommendations contained in a report submitted by the Central Regional Council of Elders in a letter dated July 20, 2026.
Following its deliberations, the FEC concluded that there were sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the NDC Constitution.
“Accordingly, you are hereby suspended from your position as Constituency Chairman of Awutu Senya East Constituency for a period of five (5) months, effective immediately,” the letter stated.
The NDC further announced that the matter had been referred to its National Disciplinary Committee for a full investigation and any additional action that may be required under the party's constitution.
As part of the suspension, Mr Ofosu Agyare has been directed to refrain from performing any official duties or exercising the powers of Constituency Chairman until the disciplinary process is concluded or the party issues further instructions.
The letter also indicated that copies of the petition submitted by the Awutu Senya East MP and the report of the Central Regional Council of Elders had been attached for his attention.
The party urged Mr Ofosu Agyare to comply fully with the directive and treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
