CAF opens bidding process for AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 hosting rights

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially launched the bidding process for Member Associations interested in hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments in 2028, 2032 and 2036.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the process is progressing smoothly, with several countries expressing interest and submitting bids to stage Africa’s premier football competition.

According to the CAF president, the continental football governing body has received a number of exciting proposals from potential host nations, highlighting the growing ambition among African countries to host the prestigious tournament.

“The bidding process for Member Associations interested in hosting AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 has commenced,” Motsepe said. “The process is progressing very well, and numerous exciting bids have been submitted by potential host countries.”

CAF is expected to assess the various proposals before making official announcements on the successful bidders in due course.

The upcoming editions of the AFCON are expected to continue the tournament’s recent expansion and development, following the successful hosting of previous competitions across different regions of the continent.

The 2027 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, marking the first time the tournament will be staged in East Africa. CAF has also expressed confidence that the event will provide a major boost to football development and infrastructure in the region.

With countries now competing for future hosting rights, the bidding process for AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 is expected to attract significant attention as nations seek the opportunity to showcase their facilities, culture and footballing passion on the continental stage.
