Win the Ghana Premier League title for us - Kotoko board chairman tells head coach Eric Tinkler

Asante Kotoko Board Chairman James Osei Brown has challenged newly appointed head coach Eric Tinkler to lead the club to Ghana Premier League glory in the 2026/27 season while building a competitive squad capable of restoring the Porcupine Warriors’ dominance.

The South African tactician was recently unveiled as Kotoko’s new head coach on a long-term contract as the club begins preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Speaking during an official address to Tinkler, Brown assured the experienced coach of the club’s full backing but made it clear that winning the league title remains the primary objective.

“The expectation is that we want you to win us the league and then take us to where all of us want us to be," he said.

"You have our full support," Brown added.

Tinkler arrives at Kotoko with vast experience across African football, having managed some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.

The 55-year-old has enjoyed success on both domestic and continental fronts, guiding Orlando Pirates to the final of the CAF Champions League and leading SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final. He has also won major domestic trophies, including the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout Cup.

Before embarking on his coaching career, Tinkler was a respected midfielder who captained the South African national team and earned 48 international appearances for Bafana Bafana.

He was part of the South African squad that won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations and featured at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. At club level, he gained European experience with teams including Barnsley in England, Cagliari in Italy and Vitória Setúbal in Portugal.

The former midfielder has now begun work with Kotoko as the club opens its pre-season camp ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season.

The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping Tinkler’s experience and track record can help them challenge for the league title and return to the top of Ghanaian football.

Meanwhile, the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season will kick off on the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.
