There is no doubt about Tariq Lamptey's talent - QPR CEO Christian Nourry

Queens Park Rangers CEO Christian Nourry has expressed his excitement following the signing of Ghana international Tariq Lamptey, describing the defender’s decision to join the club as a major statement of QPR’s growing ambitions.

The 26-year-old has completed a long-term move to the English Championship side after leaving Italian Serie A club Fiorentina following an injury-disrupted spell.

Lamptey arrived at Fiorentina with high expectations after making the switch from Brighton & Hove Albion, but his time in Italy was severely affected by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

After the conclusion of last season, both parties agreed to part ways, paving the way for his return to English football.

Speaking to QPR’s official website after confirming the signing of the former Chelsea right-back, Nourry welcomed the arrival of the Ghana defender and revealed that Lamptey was attracted by the club’s vision.

“It is great to be able to announce Tariq’s arrival at QPR today," he said.

“We’ve had good conversations about what he wants to achieve and how he feels that this is the right environment for him to flourish in.

“With over 100 Premier League appearances to his name at 25, there is no doubting his talent.

“His decision to join QPR over a myriad of other EFL Championship clubs and clubs abroad is a further signal of the growing potential of this football club," he added.

Lamptey, who was born in Hillingdon, began his football journey in Chelsea’s academy and made his Premier League debut for the Blues against Arsenal in 2019.

He later joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2020, where he established himself as an exciting full-back, making over 120 appearances for the Seagulls before moving to Fiorentina.

The defender has also been a key figure for Ghana, representing the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and earning 11 senior international caps.

His move to QPR provides him with an opportunity to rebuild his career and regain his best form following his injury setback.
