The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, has confirmed that TikToker Camilla Alhassan is a registered member of the party.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Classfmonline.com, Nana B said Ms Alhassan is registered in the Awutu Senya West Constituency.
"She is in the Awutu Senya West constituency. Yes, she belongs to the party. She is part of her polling station. She's a member at the polling station," he explained.
Nana B, however, stressed that the NPP does not condone the use of offensive language against political leaders or any individual.
"From the beginning I mentioned that I will not, and the party will not condone, nor accept... We do not entertain any form of foul language targeted at any leader whatsoever," he said.
He nonetheless argued that such concerns should not translate into restrictions on citizens' right to free expression.
"But for me, that doesn't mean that we need to criminalise free speech," Nana B added.
He maintained that while political actors have a duty to promote responsible communication, freedom of expression remains a core democratic principle — one he believes is under threat during President Mahama's administration.
Nana B pointed to what he described as an inconsistency with a position Mr Mahama himself took in a 2022 letter to then President Nana Akufo-Addo, in which he accused Nana Addo of curtailing free expression. Nana B said he could count 30 individuals who had fallen victim to what he observed is President Mahama's crackdown on free speech.
He decried how Mr Mahama's "government seems to be engaged in selective justice".
His remarks follow concerns raised over comments made by Camilla Alhassan, who has been sentenced to a year in prison for offensive conduct and for publishing false claims targeting President John Dramani Mahama.

Here is my take on the relationships between NPP leadership and party members, loyalists and foot soldiers. The NPP party and leaders want society to believe that "low hanging fruit" party members and foot soldiers go out there and "act a fool" for the benefit of party without tacit approval or reward from party elites because each of them are willing to die for the party without reservation. For society to accept such a "fantasy island" pitch, we will have to al...
