Black Stars midfielder Kwasi Sibo has expressed confidence in head coach Carlos Queiroz’s ability to lead Ghana to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) glory and end the country’s decades-long wait for another major international trophy.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have not won the AFCON title since their historic triumph in Libya in 1982.
Since that success, the Black Stars have come close on several occasions, reaching the final in 1992, 2010 and 2015, but suffered defeats each time. Other campaigns have also ended in disappointment, leaving the nation searching for another continental crown.
With the 2027 AFCON on the horizon, Sibo believes Ghana have a fresh opportunity to change the narrative and bring back the glory days.
“It’s been ages, and now AFCON is coming. That’s a dream, and I want that dream to manifest,” the Real Oviedo midfielder told 3Sports.
The 28-year-old, who impressed during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, says he has faith in the direction of the national team under Queiroz, who is expected to continue as head coach after guiding the Black Stars to the knockout stage of the global tournament.
Sibo believes the experience and leadership of the veteran Portuguese coach can help Ghana compete for major honours once again.
“And I believe in the team. I believe in the coaching staff of Carlos Queiroz that he can let that dream happen for every Ghanaian that have been waiting for ages to see Ghana winning a cup. So that's one thing that I'm looking for,” he said.
The Black Stars are now focused on rebuilding momentum ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
Ghana have been placed in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia, with the qualification campaign scheduled to begin in September.
Sibo and his teammates will be hoping to carry the confidence gained from the World Cup into the next chapter of Ghana’s pursuit of continental success.
