It is my dream to win AFCON with Black Stars, says midfielder Kwasi Sibo

Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has declared his ambition to help the Black Stars end their long wait for silverware, insisting that winning a major trophy with the national team remains his greatest football dream.

After impressing during his debut FIFA World Cup campaign in 2026, the 28-year-old has already turned his attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where Ghana will be aiming to reclaim continental supremacy.

Sibo was one of the standout performers for the Black Stars during the World Cup in North America, featuring in every match and earning praise for his composed displays in midfield as Ghana reached the Round of 32 under head coach Carlos Queiroz.

With the World Cup behind him, the Real Oviedo midfielder is determined to help restore Ghana's status among Africa's elite by ending the country's 43-year wait for an AFCON title.

Speaking to 3Sports, Sibo admitted that lifting a trophy with the Black Stars is the one achievement he longs to accomplish in his career.

“There's always one thing that I want to feel in my heart. I want the nation to also feel it in their heart. It's to win a cup for the nation,” Sibo said.

“I think it's been ages since Ghana won a cup. It's been ages, and now AFCON is coming. That's a dream, and I want that dream to manifest,” he added.

The Black Stars have not won the Africa Cup of Nations since their triumph in Libya in 1982. Although Ghana have reached several finals and semi-finals over the years, the four-time African champions have repeatedly fallen short of securing a fifth continental crown.

Sibo believes the experience gained during Ghana's encouraging World Cup campaign can provide the foundation for a successful AFCON challenge.

The midfielder is confident the squad possesses the quality, unity and leadership required to compete for honours and bring joy back to Ghanaian football supporters.

The Black Stars will begin their journey towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations when the qualification campaign kicks off in September.

Ghana have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia and Gambia as they seek to secure a place at the continental showpiece.
