Ghana Athletics, in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has officially announced a 13-member athletics team that will represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Games are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026, with Team Ghana aiming to build on recent successes at continental and international competitions.

In a press release issued on June 25, Ghana Athletics expressed confidence in the selected athletes, describing the squad as a balanced mix of experienced international competitors and promising emerging talents capable of making a strong impact on the Commonwealth stage.

"The Commonwealth Games provide a unique opportunity for Ghana's athletes to compete against some of the best competitors from across the Commonwealth while showcasing the country's growing strength in athletics," the statement said.

According to the federation, the team reflects Ghana Athletics' continued commitment to athlete development and long-term excellence, with the selected athletes having earned their places through an intensive qualification process.

The squad consists of sprinters, hurdlers, middle-distance runners and field athletes who have impressed during national trials and recent international competitions.

The athletes selected are:

  • Deborah Acheampong (100m, 4x100m)
  • Anita Afrifa (200m, 4x100m)
  • Evonne Britton (100m hurdles, 4x100m)
  • Rose Yeboah (High Jump)
  • Joseph Amoah (200m, 4x100m)
  • Benjamin Azamati (100m, 4x100m)
  • Mustapha Bokpin (200m, 4x100m)
  • Isaac Botsio (100m, 4x100m)
  • Mammoudu Baba Seidu (400m hurdles)
  • Abdul-Rasheed Saminu (100m, 4x100m)
  • Abigail Abuagire (800m)
  • Lovina Ewusi (400m hurdles, 4x100m)
  • James Dadzie (200m, 4x100m)

Ghana Athletics noted that the athletes demonstrated outstanding performances throughout the qualification period, with their selection reflecting not only their athletic abilities but also their commitment, discipline and consistency.

Several members of the squad head to Glasgow in impressive form, having recorded notable season-best performances in their respective events, giving Ghana optimism of producing strong performances against elite competition from across the Commonwealth.

The federation also called on Ghanaians to throw their support behind the team as they prepare to compete on one of the biggest multi-sport stages.

"The entire nation is encouraged to rally behind Team Ghana as they compete for glory and continue Ghana's proud tradition at the Commonwealth Games," the statement concluded.

Team Ghana will be seeking to deliver another memorable campaign in Glasgow as the country's athletes look to challenge for podium finishes and further establish Ghana's growing reputation in international athletics.
