Jordan Ayew Urges Patience After Ghana’s World Cup Exit: “Queiroz Needs Time”

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called for patience following Ghana’s exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the national team needs time to fully adapt to the philosophy of head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Speaking after Ghana’s 1–0 defeat to Colombia—which sealed the Black Stars’ elimination in the Round of 32—Ayew said it was unrealistic to expect the players to fully grasp a new tactical system within just two months of working under the Portuguese coach.

“He just came two months ago and tried to install his style, and now people are adjusting. You don’t just adjust within one month or two months. Football doesn’t work like that. You have to accept it.”

Ayew noted that Queiroz’s influence was already visible in Ghana’s improved defensive structure, but admitted the team lacked the attacking sharpness needed to advance further in the tournament.

“We could see that defensively we were better, but then we fell short a bit offensively. So we have to find the right balance.”

The Black Stars captain stressed that meaningful progress will only come if the players are given enough time to understand and execute the coach’s ideas.

“And it’s all about work. And the manager needs time. He’s a very good manager. You need to give him time for him to do his job, and hopefully things will be better.”

Ayew’s comments come amid expected scrutiny of Ghana’s performance, but he believes continuity—not another reset—is crucial. He argued that success cannot be achieved without allowing both the coach and the players the time required to build a shared identity.

The defeat to Colombia ended Ghana’s World Cup campaign, with Ayew urging supporters to remain patient as the team continues its transition under Queiroz.
