Ghana forward Brandon Thomas-Asante has set an ambitious target for the Black Stars, declaring that the team is aiming to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The four-time African champions have reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010 after advancing from the group phase in their fifth appearance at the tournament.

The Black Stars now face Colombia in a Round of 32 tie at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Saturday morning.

Speaking ahead of the match, the 26-year-old Coventry City striker said Ghana are motivated by belief and determination to go all the way in the competition.

"I want to win the tournament. We have this opportunity, and I don't take it lightly," the Coventry City striker told ESPN.

"I believe in my team. I believe that together, we can go as far as we want. I know a lot of people wrote us off early.

"A lot of people might laugh now, but all you can do is push for it, and we'll see what happens.

"The overall feeling is that we want to go and win the game and make a statement for our fans back home. We want to make a new dawn of really going for it in tournaments and being the powerhouses that we know we are," he added.

Thomas-Asante has already played a key role in Ghana’s campaign, providing a decisive late assist for Caleb Yirenkyi in their 1-0 win over Panama.

Kick-off for the Colombia clash is scheduled for 01:30 GMT.
