NPP Asante Mampong Parliamentary aspirant Beatrice Owarewa Siaw dies

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the Asante Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Beatrice Owarewa Siaw, popularly known as Nana Yaa, has reportedly died.

According to close sources, the 41-year-old died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi on Saturday, August 8.

One source said Nana Yaa fell ill on Saturday morning and drove herself to a clinic in Mampong before she was referred to KATH.

Another source said concern grew after she became unreachable, prompting the source to contact her uncle, who also said he could not reach her.

It later emerged that she had driven herself to KATH, where she complained of body weakness and was reportedly pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The circumstances and cause of her death have not yet been made public.

Her vehicle has since been conveyed to a police station as family members await further information and make arrangements following her death.

Nana Yaa was a member of the NPP Council of Patrons and had recently declared her intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primary in the Asante Mampong Constituency.

She was a businesswoman and philanthropist who had been actively campaigning to represent the NPP in the constituency.

As part of her campaign, she outlined plans focused on industrialisation, job creation and youth empowerment. She had also spoken publicly about investments she had made in the constituency, describing them as part of her commitment to its development.

In recent weeks, Nana Yaa had been in the media spotlight over a disagreement with the Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly concerning the redevelopment of Tadiem Park into an AstroTurf facility.

She accused the Assembly of obstructing the project, which she said was intended to provide a modern recreational facility for residents.

The Municipal Assembly, however, maintained that she had failed to obtain the necessary approvals before commencing work on the project.

Her death has left the NPP fraternity in the Asante Mampong Constituency in shock and mourning.

Her body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital as the family begins arrangements for her burial.
