2026 World Cup: Asamoah Gyan rallies nation behind Black Stars ahead of opener against Panama

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has delivered an emotional rallying message to Ghanaians, urging unity and full support for the national team as they prepare to begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama.

In a statement titled “My People,” the Ghana legend described the Black Stars as the country’s pride and “only product,” congratulating the 26-man squad selected for the tournament and expressing confidence in their ability to represent the nation with distinction on the global stage.

Gyan called on Ghanaians at home and in the diaspora to put aside differences and stand firmly behind the team, stressing that football remains a powerful unifying force.

He encouraged collective support for the Black Stars as they aim to showcase Ghana’s identity and strengthen the country’s global football brand.

The former striker also acknowledged key stakeholders, including President John Mahama, the Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the Ghana Football Association led by Kurt Okraku, the media, and supporters, praising what he described as a shared national effort in getting the team to the tournament.

“Win, lose or draw,” the message suggested, “the nation remains united,” as Gyan urged the players to go out and make the country proud when they step onto the pitch in Toronto.

Ghana open their Group L campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, at BMO Field, a fixture already generating significant attention as the Black Stars seek a strong start in a competitive group that also includes England and Croatia.

The team has already arrived in Toronto and is set to conduct a mandatory training session ahead of the clash.

After their opener against Panama, Ghana will face England at Gillette Stadium on June 23 before wrapping up their Group L campaign against Croatia on June 27, with hopes of reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
