From Colleagues to Teammates: The rise of Star Boys FC

What started as a shared love for football among a group of colleagues has grown into a strong and vibrant team that continues to bring people together both on and off the pitch.

Established in 2022, Star Boys FC is an amateur football club made up of staff members from various departments who share a passion for the game and a commitment to healthy living. Over the years, the club has become much more than a football team. It has evolved into a platform that promotes friendship, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging among its members.

The idea behind the club was simple: create an avenue for employees to stay active, unwind from the pressures of work and build stronger relationships outside the office. Since then, Star Boys FC has continued to grow, attracting staff members who see football as a way of connecting with colleagues while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The team regularly participates in friendly matches, corporate football tournaments and community sporting activities. While victories on the field are always celebrated, members say the greatest achievement has been the unity, friendship and camaraderie that the club has fostered over the years.

Supporting the growth of the team is a dedicated group of patrons who continue to play important roles in its development. They include Mrs. Boatemaa D. Barfour-Awuah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Mrs. Esther Yirenkyiwah Opoku, Chief Operations Officer (COO); Mr. Justice Frank Offei, Chief Finance Officer (CFO); Mrs. Abena Owusu-Afriyie, Head of Human Resource; Mr. Solomon Aboagye, Head of Data Analytics; Mr. Nanabanyin Dennis of Corporate Marketing; Nana Serwaa Abrahams, Head of Global Markets; and Mr. Ebenezer Akuamoah-Boateng, Head of Agency. Their support, encouragement and commitment to the team's vision have contributed significantly to its progress and continued success.

The club has also enjoyed tremendous support from the Management of Star Assurance, whose commitment to employee welfare and wellness has been instrumental in the team's success. Management provides budgetary support and funding for the team's activities, including the payment for football parks, training sessions and refreshments during matches and other team engagements. Members say this support has not only eased the financial burden of running the team but has also demonstrated the company's belief in the importance of staff well-being, teamwork and work-life balance.

Behind the scenes, the smooth running of the club is overseen by team managers Nicholas Aryeequaye and Stephen Kissiedu. Their dedication and hard work have helped create a well-organised structure that keeps the team active and competitive throughout the year.

On the technical side, coaches Peter Dennis and Kojo Kwansah Aidoo have played a key role in shaping the team's identity. Through their leadership, guidance and commitment, they have helped build a disciplined, united and competitive squad that continues to improve with every game.
