Tariq Lamptey returns to training as defender eyes new club after Fiorentina contract termination

Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has resumed full training as he steps up his search for a new club ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The 25-year-old is currently without a club after his contract with Italian side Fiorentina was terminated following a spell disrupted by persistent injury problems.

Lamptey joined the Serie A outfit from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2025 on a three-year deal, but his time in Florence proved challenging.

The former Chelsea defender struggled to establish himself in the team, making only two appearances and accumulating just 25 minutes of playing time before injuries once again hampered his progress.

After spending several months on the sidelines recovering from an ACL injury, the right-back has now returned to full fitness and is back on the training pitch as he works towards securing a new opportunity.

His recovery comes as Ghana gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Despite regaining fitness, Lamptey was omitted from head coach Carlos Queiroz's final 26-man squad for the global tournament.
