Ellis Quaye files for second Vice President at Ghana Boxing Authority lections

Accra and UK-based businessman, boxing manager and promoter Ellis Quaye has officially filed his nomination papers with the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Ghana Boxing ahead of the upcoming elections.

Quaye submitted his documents on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium, outlining his vision to help reshape and reposition boxing in Ghana.

Addressing the media after filing his papers, Quaye reflected on his long-standing involvement in the sport, revealing that his serious journey in boxing began in 1995.

He highlighted his role in managing notable fighters including Kofi Quaye, Gbese Tyson and Joseph Agbeko, describing them as boxers whose dedication inspired him to remain committed to the sport.

“These are great boxers whose energies and hard work made us stay in boxing,” he said.

Quaye currently partners with Cabic Promotions, organisers of the quarterly Cabic Big Fight Nights, which were initially staged at the Idrowhyt Events Centre before moving to the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Under their promotional outfit, several Ghanaian fighters have been guided onto bigger stages, including Patrick Allotey, who challenged for a world title.

Drawing on his experience across Ghana, the United Kingdom and the United States, Quaye believes he understands the demands of modern boxing administration and is ready to apply that knowledge locally.

“We have worked in Ghana, UK and USA and know what the people want. We want to deliver the best for Ghana boxing,” he stated.

Quaye said his decision to contest stems from a desire to give Ghana boxing a fresh identity and improved image, while promoting discipline among officials and supporters.

According to him, the sport requires experienced but fresh-minded administrators capable of driving boxing to higher levels.

He further stressed the need for stronger governance following the suspension of boxing activities after the deaths of Nigerian and Ghanaian boxers, insisting that future operations must be handled with greater care and professionalism.

Quaye also threw his support behind the candidacy of Ivan Bruce Cudjoe and called on delegates to vote responsibly in the interest of the sport.

The boxing promoter faces competition from fellow manager-promoters Moshud Zaid and Dave Bishop in the race for leadership.
