Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has described Ghana’s U-17 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Algeria as a demanding tactical contest, urging his side to stay disciplined and focused from the outset.
Ghana open their Group D campaign against the North Africans in a fixture expected to set the tone for a highly competitive group that also features Senegal and South Africa.
Narteh Ogum praised Algeria’s structure and balance, noting that their organisation in both attack and defence makes them a difficult opponent, especially in opening matches where stakes are high, and margins are tight.
"We are expecting a very competitive and tactical game. Algeria are a good side with strong organisation both defensively and offensively. Opening matches are always difficult because every team wants to start well," he told CAFOnline.
Narteh Ogum also stressed that composure in decisive moments could prove the difference, calling for efficiency in front of goal and concentration throughout the encounter.
"We must remain disciplined, focused and clinical when opportunities come. I believe it will be a good contest between two strong teams."
Ghana are aiming to begin their tournament on a strong note as they target progression from a challenging group and a potential berth at the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
