Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has called on his players to stay composed and embrace the pressure of representing Ghana as they prepare for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal and South Africa in what promises to be a highly competitive pool.
Speaking to CAFOnline, Ogum emphasised the need for mental resilience and discipline, insisting that external expectations must be channelled into motivation rather than fear.
"We constantly remind the players to stay calm and focus on the process rather than the pressure outside. Playing for Ghana always comes with expectations, but we encourage them to see it as motivation instead of fear," he said.
The former Asante Kotoko coach also highlighted efforts to strengthen unity and belief within the squad, stressing that collective discipline will be key to success.
"We are building confidence within the team and helping the players understand that discipline, teamwork and belief are the keys to success."
The Black Starlets begin their campaign tonight against Algeria at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT.
Ghana heads into the tournament with renewed ambition, hoping to make a strong impression on the continental stage and convert its preparations into positive results against Africa’s elite youth sides.
Beyond continental success, the Black Starlets are also targeting qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
