Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber has openly expressed his desire to see Mohamed Salah make the switch to the United States, following confirmation that the forward will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season.
Salah’s announcement has sparked widespread speculation about his next move, with several leagues expected to compete for the signature of one of football’s most high-profile names.
Speaking to reporters at the SBJ Business of Soccer event in Atlanta, Garber admitted he had held back his thoughts until the Egyptian formally revealed his plans to depart Anfield.
"I couldn't say that until he announced he was leaving Liverpool," he said. "But what a great player he would be in MLS. And I think we would provide him with a great platform."
The comments highlight MLS’s ongoing strategy of attracting globally recognised stars capable of elevating the league’s profile both competitively and commercially.
With a glittering résumé at Liverpool and a global fan base that stretches far beyond Europe, Salah is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents on the market this summer.
Although no official move has been made, Garber’s remarks serve as a clear indication that MLS is prepared to position itself firmly in the race for his signature, as it continues to market itself as an increasingly attractive destination for elite players.
