Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has voiced strong optimism about the Black Stars’ prospects at the 2026 World Cup, confident the team can make history in North America.
The senior national team will mark its fifth World Cup appearance at the tournament, set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
Ghana, four-time African champions, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Their campaign begins against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by a clash with England on June 23, and wraps up against Croatia on June 27.
Speaking at the launch of the World Cup Fundraising Campaign at the Kempinski Hotel on March 20, Okraku highlighted the determination of coach Otto Addo’s squad to overcome past setbacks.
After consecutive group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022 in Brazil and Qatar, respectively, he insisted the Black Stars are ready to rewrite their narrative.
“Today, we are very confident that the intangible assets that we have produced over time, the intangible assets that have been put together by coach [Otto] Addo and his team, we will make Ghana proud," he said.
“We will go into this tournament with our chest up, ready to fight for the strip and ready to change our story. We fear no foe and believe me, Ghana football will speak," Okraku added.
In preparation for the World Cup, the Black Stars have regrouped for friendly matches against Austria and Germany, using the games to fine-tune their squad and strategy ahead of the summer tournament.
