The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Mali has reportedly directed the Malian Football Federation to part ways with head coach Tom Saintfiet after the national team’s underwhelming performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Mali’s premature departure from the tournament has drawn sharp criticism from fans and sections of the football establishment, prompting calls for sweeping changes within the technical setup.
According to reports, the Sports Ministry is keen on a shake-up as part of a wider effort to rebuild and strengthen the national side.
The latest development follows Saintfiet’s recent dismissal of speculation that he had resigned.
The Belgian tactician maintained that he remains fully committed to the role and is determined to guide the Eagles through a rebuilding phase despite the AFCON disappointment.
As of now, FEMAFOOT has not released an official statement addressing the Ministry’s alleged directive, leaving uncertainty surrounding Saintfiet’s future with the team.
Saintfiet was appointed in August 2024 on a two-year contract, with an option for renewal.
