Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into Premier League history, becoming the first Ghanaian player to score 13 goals in a single English top-flight season.
The 26-year-old reached the milestone on Wednesday night, finding the net in City’s 3-0 victory over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.
Semenyo’s latest strike sees him surpass a long-standing Ghanaian record previously held by Tony Yeboah.
The former Leeds United striker scored 12 league goals during his celebrated spells in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons, a tally later equalled by Andre Ayew at Swansea City in the 2015/16 campaign.
After falling just short last season with 11 goals, Semenyo has now gone one better, standing alone as the most prolific Ghanaian scorer in a single Premier League campaign.
Since making the step up from the Championship, he has steadily grown into one of the league’s standout performers.
Despite joining Manchester City in the winter transfer window, Semenyo has quickly become an influential figure in Pep Guardiola’s side as they push for the Premier League title.
He will look to maintain his impressive form this weekend when City welcome lower-tier opposition Salford FC in the FA Cup.
