The Royal Ladies of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) narrowly missed out on a historic continental triumph, falling to Lakers of Kenya on penalties in the final of the Africa Cup for Club Championship in Zimbabwe.
GRA dominated the group stage with three straight victories: a 2–0 win over Lakers of Kenya, a commanding 6–2 result against Bulawayo of Zimbabwe, and a convincing 4–0 triumph over Hippo Valley. Their exceptional performances earned them all the Best Player awards in the group phase and a smooth passage to the final.
The championship match was a tense showdown against familiar rivals Lakers. Captain Elizabeth Opoku put the Royal Ladies ahead, but the Kenyans drew level to force a 1–1 stalemate at full time. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Lakers prevailed 2–0—reversing the outcome of their opening‑day meeting.
Although the Royal Ladies missed the chance to secure a sixth continental title and a fifth consecutive crown, they extended their impressive legacy with a fifth silver medal since their debut in 2008. Their last silver finish came in Egypt in 2019.
In the men’s third‑place playoff, the GRA men’s team clinched bronze after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Hippo Valley. The match ended 2–2 in regulation time before GRA triumphed from the spot. Luke was named Player of the Match for his standout performance.
GRA also excelled in the tournament’s individual awards. Matilda Addison and Eugene Acheampong were crowned Best Goalkeepers of the competition, while Royal Ladies captain Elizabeth Opoku capped a stellar campaign by finishing as the tournament’s Top Scorer with seven goals.
