CAF and FIFA instructor Thomas Nunoo has raised serious concerns about the quality of refereeing in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
Officiating has repeatedly come under scrutiny, with several controversial incidents dominating headlines.
In Matchday 19, Kotoko were denied a goal in their game against Bibiani GoldStars, and Young Apostles have threatened to boycott the league, citing what they describe as unfair refereeing decisions.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Nunoo described the standard of officiating as “worrying” and called for proactive action.
"The recent performance of our referees in the Ghana Premier League is worrying," he said.
"We should not wait for the Review Committee to raise concerns, but we should be able to ask questions and make decisions."
He further added that many refereeing decisions seem to be influenced by the officials’ positions.
"Many of the decisions of some Premier League referees appear to be influenced by their positions," Nunoo added.
In response to the growing criticism, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to convene a meeting with match officials to address the issues raised.
