Former Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has urged the Black Stars to avenge their previous defeats to Comoros when the two sides meet on Sunday in the final game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, aiming to seal qualification for next year’s tournament.
The Black Stars have twice fallen to the Islanders, first during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which led to Ghana’s early exit, and again in the Matchday 2 World Cup qualifier in Moroni.
Speaking ahead of the decisive encounter, Vanderpuye expressed confidence in the team’s qualification chances but insisted that Ghana must seek redemption.
“Against Comoros, we have already qualified. Even if we lose, Madagascar would need to win by eight goals to overtake us, which is practically impossible,” he told Citi Newsroom.
“But we should still beat Comoros because of the painful defeat we suffered in the past. We have to prove to them that we are Ghana,” he added.
Kick-off for the much-anticipated clash is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
The Black Stars, who have featured in four previous World Cups, in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, are determined to book a fifth appearance on football’s grandest stage.
