Two Ghanaian boxers stop Nigerian counterparts to claim new UBO Continental Africa titles on Cabic Big Fight Night

The UBO Continental Africa Championship continues to capture the imagination of boxing fans in Ghana and Nigeria, with recent matchups between fighters from both nations adding to the growing excitement around the title.

On Friday night, Cabic Promotions hosted an action-packed event as part of the May 9 edition of their boxing series at the Idrowhyt Events Center in Dansoman, Accra. The headline bout saw Ghanaian deaf boxer Emmanuel Mankattah Sackey make history by claiming his first major title — the UBO Super Featherweight belt — with a stunning fifth-round knockout of Nigeria’s Yusuf Muhammed Olalekan.

Sackey, 26, came out strong and never relented, showing sharpness, aggression, and determination from the opening bell. His relentless pressure culminated in a powerful right hand that floored Olalekan in round five. Sackey now boasts a professional record of 9 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw, with 7 of those wins coming by knockout. Olalekan, 29, drops to an identical 9-3 record with 7 KOs.

Another much-anticipated clash saw Sulaimon Olagbade, known as the “Tyson Killer,” fall to Ghana’s rising star Dana Kofi, nicknamed “Achilles.” Despite Olagbade’s pre-fight bravado, he was unable to handle Dana’s speed, power, and tactical prowess, conceding defeat via a fourth-round TKO in their UBO Continental Africa Super Welterweight Championship bout.

Dana, just 21, now holds a record of 5 wins and 3 losses in 8 fights, and is keen to solidify his place in the Ghanaian boxing landscape. Olagbade, a former Nigerian national and West Africa Boxing Union champion, had entered the fight with five consecutive knockout victories.

In other bouts, Daniel Quaye of Bronx Gym overpowered young prospect Michael Akramah Tetteh, known as “D.K. Poison,” in a one-sided Welterweight contest, ending the fight with a first-round stoppage.

The Ghana-Nigeria boxing rivalry was once again on full display, highlighting the sporting camaraderie and competitive spirit shared by the two nations.

On the undercard, Middleweight Michael Darko earned a decision win over Patrick Cudjoe, while Emmanuel Quaye outboxed Joseph Tagoe in a Super Welterweight contest. Fredrick Lawson also secured a fifth-round TKO over Justice Addy.

The double-header event, featuring two UBO title fights, delivered on expectations as fans and invited guests were treated to a thrilling night of boxing action. Cabic Promotions ensured all necessary safety, medical, security, and immigration protocols were observed, as affirmed by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President.

Mr. Jingles, manager of both Idrowhyt and Cabic Promotions, extended his appreciation to media outlets that helped promote the event, including GTV, GH One, Metro TV, Omashi TV, Ghanaweb, KA Box TV, Onelifeboxing, ModernGhana, BoxingGhana, NewsGhana, GhanaNewsOnline, Accra Live, UltimateSportsGhana, Dornu’s Corner, iBox360 TV, and GBA TV.

Veteran matchmaker and ring announcer Sam Nana Gold also expressed gratitude to the GBA and the fighters for their outstanding performances, adding that the next Cabic Promotions event is tentatively scheduled for September.
