Ghanaian para-athletes Zinabu Issah and Gilbert Ampiah, who recently earned medals in Morocco, presented their accomplishments to the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), Mr. Samson Deen, during a brief ceremony held on Tuesday at the NPC Secretariat in Accra.
The symbolic event served to honour Mr. Deen’s outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment to athlete development, and tireless advocacy for inclusion, equality, and opportunity within both Ghana’s and the global Paralympic movement.
The medal presentation was not only an expression of gratitude but also a reaffirmation of the shared vision of establishing Ghana as a dominant force in African para-sports.
Mr. Deen expressed heartfelt appreciation to the athletes, praising their performances and urging all young Ghanaians with disabilities to pursue their dreams, work hard, and strive for international success.
Sixteen-year-old Gilbert Ampiah, a student at St. Augustine’s College, secured a bronze medal in the High Jump T44 category at the prestigious Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech.
Veteran athlete Zinabu Issah delivered a stellar performance at the WPA 2025 Marrakech Grand Prix, clinching a gold medal in the discus throw with a record distance of 29.25 meters and earning a silver medal in the shot put.
Also part of the team was Edmund Govina, who competed in the men’s T31 shot put and discus throw events. Although he did not win a medal, his participation was an important contribution to Ghana’s growing presence in international para-athletics.
