Ghanaian defender Mohammed Umar played a pivotal role in FC Politehnica Iași's dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Sănătatea Cluj in the Cupa României.
The former Ghana U-20 international was part of the starting lineup for the match held at Stadionul Clujana.
The hosts took the lead in the 36th minute, courtesy of a goal from Laley Fofana. However, the Moldovan side returned from the halftime break with renewed determination, finding the equalizer through Robert Miskovic just two minutes into the second half.
Umar secured the winning goal in the 52nd minute, helping FC Politehnica Iași claim their first away win in this season's competition. The victory strengthens their chances of advancing in the League Cup.
Umar played the entire 90 minutes, showcasing his defensive prowess and contributing to the team's success.
The win also propelled FC Politehnica Iași to second place in their group with four points from two matches. Umar, who joined the Romanian side from Finnish club Ilves, continues to make a strong impression in his new team.
