Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo reflected on his rapid rise to fame following his pivotal role in England's journey to the Euro 2024 final.
The 19-year-old, of Ghanaian descent but based in the UK, has been a standout performer for Gareth Southgate's squad, marking a breakthrough season both internationally and at Manchester United.
Mainoo's mature display in England's semi-final victory over the Netherlands showcased his growing confidence and skill, leaving him somewhat astonished at his own rapid progress.
"It's an indescribable feeling," he shared with BBC Radio 5 Live.
"It's happened so quickly, but I've been taking each day and each game as it comes, and now we find ourselves in the European Championship final."
Reflecting on England's journey, Mainoo expressed optimism about the team's prospects.
"We're all buzzing. It's been quite a journey to reach this point. I believe we've built upon our performances throughout the tournament, and now we have the chance to make history," he said.
Discussing England's midfield dominance in the semi-final, Mainoo highlighted the team's improvement and readiness for the final showdown against Spain.
"We know Spain is a strong side with victories over tough opponents," he noted. "But we're prepared. We've built momentum and are aiming high. We'll give it our all."
England faces Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday, setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated clash between two football powerhouses.
